Hello & Welcome (again!)

Hello and welcome to my site. Although it’s been around for a long time, I have recently re-designed it and added many more projects under my portfolio. I plan to hopefully start writing again in my blog as well, so stay tuned for good things to come. This post is to re-introduce you to who I am, what I do, and why I do it. As always, please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments.

My name is Hanieh and I am a designer, photographer and writer currently based in Toronto. I was born in Tehran, Iran and have spent the majority of my life in Canada. I received my Bachelor degree from the University of Toronto, where I majored in English Literature and Visual Studies. In 2013, I graduated from Sheridan College where I completed a post-graduate certificate program in Journalism- New Media.

I attended the University of York in England where I studied the intersection of sociology and computer science, graduating with a Master of Science in Social Media and Interactive Technologies in September of 2014. My thesis compared how young adults use their mobile devices in Iran and the UK during political demonstrations.

I currently work for the Geneva Centre for Autism as a Web Design Assistant. I’m very passionate about contributing to the ever-changing techno-digital environment, and have an up-to-date understanding of digital technologies, extensive knowledge of social media practices and trends, and many years of experience in multiple forms of communications. I aim to integrate a variety of disciplines and concepts such as sociology, cultural studies and the visual arts in the design of digital applications, in order to help improve the way users interact with new and existing web and mobile interfaces.

I am also a published writer and photographer, interested in storytelling that raises awareness, triggers the imagination and creates discussion. My passion for documentary work stems from my diverse experiences and travels, however, I also draw a great deal of inspiration from my roots and background.

I love to read and I’m a football fanatic. My favourite book is Crime and Punishment, and I’ve been a hard core Juventus supporter my whole life.

There’s nothing in the world I love more than travelling. Last but not least, I will never say no to a cup of coffee.

That’s all for now.

Thank you for visiting!
